Can Gas Struts Be Re‑Gassed?
Gas struts commonly last 3–7 years, though higher-quality examples can endure for a decade or more. Wear from temperature extremes, moisture and frequent use will reduce performance over time.
Typical signs a strut may need replacement rather than re‑gassing:
- Reduced lifting power
- Oil leaking from the strut
- Visible damage to the casing
If a strut is near the end of its life we may advise replacement rather than re‑gassing.
Up‑Rating & New Struts
If you’ve added extra weight to an application (for example a spoiler or bike rack) existing struts can be up‑rated to higher force — often much cheaper than replacing them. New struts purchased from Nitrolift can also be supplied at higher than factory pressure if required.
Cost
Expect a typical re‑gassing cost of £20–£60, depending on specifications. Costs vary if replacement ends are needed and whether you’re re‑gassing singles or pairs.
We generally recommend replacing or re‑gassing struts in pairs for balanced performance. Single struts on cupboards, boxes or caravans can be re‑gassed individually.
Nitrolift Warranty
Re‑gassed struts carry a one‑month warranty. If a re‑gas fails within that period, the cost of the re‑gas will be discounted from new struts purchased from SGS. We will always recommend replacement if it’s the more economical option.
